What is scrip, anyway?
When you purchase scrip, you are
purchasing negotiable gift certificates that are used just like cash. The scrip
is issued by many of the national and local where you already shop. These
merchants want to support non-profit organization, and in return ask you to
support them by shopping with scrip at their stores. You can use scrip to
purchase everyday expenses like food, clothing, and other essentials, and with
every purchase, St. Rita and you earn revenue.
How do I order scrip?
Fill out the
Family Order Form and
either send with your child to school or submit to the rectory.
Where do the scrip certificates come
from?
Great Lakes Scrip Center purchases the
certificates directly from the retails. These certificates and cards are the
same gift certificates you would buy if you went to the participating retailer
and purchased them yourself.
Can I use the scrip certificates
anywhere?
Yes, the certificates are accepted at all
participating retailer locations.
Does it cost families anything to
participate? Do they have to sell anything?
There are no membership fees, application
fees, or sales requirements. Families simply pay St. Rita the face value for the
certificates they order. The beauty of the scrip concept lies in the fact that
families raise money for St. Rita by using their existing household shopping
budget. Some families may enlist relatives, friends, and neighbors to buy scrip.
But unlike other fundraising programs, scrip families do not have to 'sell'
anything to raise money.
Can I use script to pay department store
charge account balances?
A few retailers allow you to pay charge
account balances with scrip, but generally speaking, most do not.
