Requirements for Confirmation

This year, Confirmation will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Assumption on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at 7:00 p.m. More information and directions to the cathedral will be provided closer to the event.

It is very important that the following requirements be met by all St. Rita Religious Education candidates wishing to be confirmed in the Catholic Church.

  1. Attend Mass– The mass is the center of our faith. You should attend and participate every week.
  2. 40 Hours of Service Work– Since you are now considered an adult in the Church, service work is essential. Your service log must be turned in before the retreat.
  3. Pick your Saint´s name– This is the name you will tell the Archbishop during the confirmation ceremony. Pick a Saint who has meaning for you.
  4. Pick your Sponsor-Your sponsor is a very important person. They must be at least 16 years of age and a practicing Catholic.
  5. Attend Retreat– Retreat will be in February. There will be a separate flyer about the retreat.
  6. Letter for the Archbishop– Make it meaningful and from the heart. Archbishop wants to know:
    1. Why do you want to be confirmed?
    2. How did you prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation?
    3. Why did you pick your sponsor?
    4. Why did you pick your Saint´s name?
    5. In what way do you hope to live out the Catholic faith?

Your letter should be typed and collected by March 1st. take time to think about what you want to say. The Archbishop reads some of them during the Confirmation ceremony.

We need copies of the baptismal certificates before November 1st. you kay bring them to class any Sunday.
